Together with the participants, we painted an earwig (Forficula auricularia) whilst exploring watercolour techniques. I started with a short presentation about the painting process, the species, and the role of scientific illustration, and then watched with delight as this fascinating insect slowly came to life on paper.
This earwig holds a special place in my heart. Back on 1 January 2019, I painted my very first insect illustration on watercolour paper. And on 12 June, it was wonderful to see how each participant approached the same subject in their own unique way.
Thank you to Everyone who joined and shared the afternoon with me. Painting together with a view of the ocean made the experience even more special.
And a special thank you to Associação Os Montanheiros for organising the event and making this workshop possible.
